Backpack Program:
In response to the issue of hungry children in our communities, United Way of Becker County began a Backpack Program that sends home a backpack of nutritious food and snacks for needy children over the weekend. The program is a collaboration with local school districts and the United Way. Teachers, counselors and principals identify potential students, send home a permission slip, and then notify United Way each week how many backpacks with food are needed. Contact Detroit Lakes, Frazee-Vergas or Lake Park/Audubon school districts for more information.
Day of Caring:
In May of each year, United Way of Becker County sponsors the Day of Caring. Over 2,200 youth & adult volunteers work in communities throughout Becker County raking leaves for elderly or disabled residents, working at a local non-profit or community agency, etc. If you or someone you know could benefit from Day of Caring volunteers, please Contact Us.
